EHR Vendor NextGen Launches Cloud-Based Healthcare Interoperability Tool

The cloud-based tool from EHR vendor NextGen aims to resolve healthcare interoperability challenges, such as high costs to maintain interfaces.

EHR vendor NextGen Healthcare has announced the launch of Mirth Cloud Connect, a cloud-based solution that aims to streamline healthcare interoperability.

The tool integrates patient data flow from multiple trusted sources for actionable insights at the point of care.

Mirth Cloud Connect is set to help healthcare organizations resolve data exchange challenges, such as high costs to develop and maintain interfaces and difficulties accessing health data exchanges.

“True interoperability can have a profoundly positive impact on the healthcare industry, but it needs to be about more than checking boxes; it is about achieving better health outcomes,” Srinivas (Sri) Velamoor, NextGen Healthcare chief growth & strategy officer and executive vice president, said in a press release.

“NextGen Healthcare continues to be a standard bearer to realize the true potential of interoperability and is leading with new solutions,” Velamoor added. “Mirth Cloud Connect, which leverages our strategic innovation partnerships with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Snowflake, delivers interoperability with purpose.”

The cloud-based interoperability solution is built upon NextGen Healthcare’s Mirth Connect tool, which facilitates the monthly exchange of over seven million messages.

“NextGen Healthcare’s Mirth Cloud Connect will allow SHARE to reduce the time and cost for customers,” said Neal Holt, director of information and technology at SHARE (State Health Alliance for Records Exchange) at the Arkansas Department of Health, an early adopter of the solution.

“SHARE will have one interface per message type to Mirth Cloud Connect, where before we had several interfaces,” Holt continued. “This will allow SHARE to simplify processes by creating a single point of contact.”

NextGen Healthcare clients report high satisfaction with the EHR vendor’s ability to support interoperability.

A recent KLAS research report ranked NextGen Healthcare highest for interoperability among ambulatory EHR vendors, followed by athenahealth. NextGen Healthcare customers consistently reported functionality that deduplicates incoming data before clinical workflow integration. Further, clients noted that the vendor’s focus on data standardization has helped improve care transitions.
