Telehealth company Amwell is partnering with digital chronic condition management platform DarioHealth to add a cardiometabolic program to its suite of digital offerings.

Under the partnership, patients who receive care from clinicians using Amwell's telehealth platform can be referred to Dario's program for chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure and weight management.

The digital program uses connected devices, like glucometers, scales and blood pressure monitors, as well as data tracking and support from health coaches. It will be available through Amwell in the second half of the year.

"Member care and engagement are top-of-mind for health plans, especially as consumers demand more digital tools and effective, value-driven care," Dr. Ido Schoenberg, chairman and co-CEO of Amwell, said in a statement. "By bringing solutions like Dario into our ecosystem of care programs, Amwell empowers health plans and their clinicians to create a more cohesive, integrated, and comprehensive digital journey for their members."

THE LARGER TREND

Dario, which also offers digital management programs for behavioral health and musculoskeletal care, has announced multiple recent partnership agreements.

In February, the company announced a collaboration with Dexcom to integrate its continuous glucose monitors into Dario's chronic-condition management platform. Dario said that partnership builds off its previously announced deal with biopharma giant Sanofi to speed the adoption of Dario's tools in the U.S.

In a press release announcing the collaboration with Amwell, Dario said the agreement is part of its strategy to partner with "market leading strategic partners to accelerate adoption of Dario's solutions."

Meanwhile, Amwell, a longtime player in the telehealth space, expanded into musculoskeletal care and dermatology and launched a new behavioral health product in 2022.

Benjamin Knisely and Holly Pavliscsak will offer more detail during their HIMSS23 session "Natural Language Processing to Identify Unmet Needs in Military Medicine." It is scheduled for Tuesday, April 18, at 11:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. CT at the South Building, Level 1, in room S104.
