The Microsoft Health Common User Interface (CUI) provides Design Guidance and controls which allow a new generation of safer, more usable and compelling health applications to be quickly and easily created. This site is aimed at user interface designers, application developers and patient safety experts who want to find out more about the benefits of a standardized approach to user interface design.
With the Microsoft Health CUI you can:
- Interactively browse and download the available Design Guidance documents
- Interact with on-line implementations of the available controls and samples that implement the guidance
- View the delivery roadmap for future areas of the Design Guidance and controls and learn about the delivery lifecycle that is used to create them
- Download and install the controls for use in Microsoft Visual Studio
- Provide feedback and suggestions through the Microsoft Health CUI community project on CodePlex
This new release of the Microsoft Health Common User Interface contains updates to the controls and Design Guidance which were produced from extensive consultation with patient safety experts, clinicians, user interface designers and application developers as part of the English National Health Service Common User Interface (NHS CUI) Programme.
Microsoft Health CUI enables a broader community to participate in the ongoing development of the design guidance and controls that address a broad set of patient safety concerns for healthcare organizations worldwide. All controls are release to manufacture (RTM) versions unless otherwise indicated.
A unified body of guidance will be maintained based on feedback from the broader healthcare community and innovation and collaboration with the NHS CUI Programme.
The aim of the Microsoft Health CUI Design Guidance is to support the delivery of safe patient care by providing detailed guidance for the standardization of clinical application user interfaces.
The Design Guidance is targeted at application providers whose healthcare applications are currently in use, as well as at those developing new healthcare applications in the future. With the primary focus on patient safety, the Design Guidance has been produced through a rigorous user-centred design process that incorporates primary and secondary research, usability testing and consultation with software providers. Patient Safety Assessments (PSAs) are continually performed to ensure the Design Guidance meets safety concerns.
