Intel collaborated with Motion Computing—a long-time provider of mobility products in healthcare—to develop the first generation MCA product. Healthcare professionals now have access to a portable system that can record, retrieve, identify, verify, and document-all at the point of care.
Products based on the MCA platform could offer a variety of features and technologies including:
- Durable exterior casing that can be wiped clean with disinfectant
- Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for rapid user and patient identification
- Bar code scanning to help reduce medication-dispensing errors.
- A digital camera to enhance patient documentation and progress notes
- Bluetooth technology to record patient vital signs
- Wireless connectivity to access electronic medical records systems
- Generous screen display minimizes scrolling

Intel says that it has worked with the main leading vendors of electronic patient record systems, including iSoft and Cerner, the leading suppliers to the English NHS, to ensure their systems are compatible with the tablet device.
